Friday Flower Pick : Dahlia Delights

In fall and winter, I love to see pompoms playfully bouncing on hat tops,
or dangling from the drawstrings of a snuggly cape or shawl...

But when spring and summer arrive, in the garden is where fluffy orbs look best!!
...particularly if they're the full and fanciful dahlia type!!

I captured this beauty of a bloom early one morning,
just as the sun crept over a wall of rose bushes...

...And like a cheerleader waving her fiery red pompoms,
this darling dahlia brought the sleeping garden to life!!

Friday Flower Pick : Fine as Wine Roses

I'm photographing and reveling in roses by the dozen this month!!

Here's a lovely little collection of a few of my most favorite blooms from a week filled with gloriously summer-like weather:-)

Rose gardens in full bloom, afternoon walks on the beach, and lots of sewing- have kept me feeling fine as wine this spring!!

Mermaid Monday : Aries Mermaid Illustration

I've put the finishing touches on my Aries Mermaid Illustration, part of a Mermaid Zodiac series of drawings I'm doing this year, just in time to wish all those lovely, fiery, energetic Aries mermaids a Happy Birthday=)!!

...A bold 'n beautiful, bright red poppy celebrates and complements the fire sign's energy wonderfully, don't you think?!

Friday Flower Pick : Orchid Point of View

Feeling some of the witch-work of spring,
I've enjoyed my lunch al fresco every day this week...
...discovering new city parks,
 and reveling in old favorites!!

Dawdling on the way back to a delightful afternoon of sewing one day,
I caught sight of this gorgeously arrayed orchid tree- in full, pink bloom!!

Its home is a tiny patch of green in a roundabout,
and as the traffic whirled by and I brought the flowers into focus,
I enjoyed a glimpse of my busy little world,
from an orchid point of view=)

Friday Flower Pick : Flowers in the Sand

One of April's many beautiful, flowery gifts is an abundance of rose blooms!!
...From the gardens of busy 'n bustling Palisades Park,
to quiet 'n quaint side streets around town,
magnificent rose blooms are the crowned queens of the month!!

But the other day, while walking on the beach,
something a little less obvious caught my eye.
...I discovered these tiny, sunshine yellow flowers surfacing from the sand!!

So, before I fill up my Friday Flower Pick posts with a feast of delicious roses,
I wanted to share a simple, sunny moment of spring magic!!

...I hope you enjoy a moment in the sun this weekend too!!

Mermaid Make : Rainbow Crochet Vest

If you see me in my day-to-day wardrobe, then you know I'm obsessed with this retro vest pattern from Red Heart. In fact, I'm currently picking out colors from my stash for vest number six!!

The first one I made was a sensible and versatile, natural-colored version, with just a touch of burgundy. Next came the pastel little number that I love to contrast with a black and red rose print dress. Third was the infamous must-have of Winter 2015..the Ugly Christmas sweater, in obligatory red 'n green, and I cheerfully followed it up with this electric rainbow edition- heavy on the hot pink and aqua!! Last but certainly not least, to makes its début...is the rose garden-inspired one you see me basking in a #SundayFunday glow with (below). After a stitch 'n beach morning, I very appropriately wove in all the ends while sitting among the bounty of roses in Palisades Park.

It's a great project for me on-the-go, since I'm working with small, left-over yarn balls, and I must say, that I am absolutely putting these makes to work!! Using them to tie together a mixed floral print look, styling them over long sleeve thermals in the winter, or over a spaghetti strap dress for spring...I'm finding endless ways to mix them into my wardrobe!!

Friday Flower Pick : Wonderland of Roses

How lovely that the month of April is beginning
in an absolute wonderland of roses!!

Every shade of red, pink, and fuchsia is represented in this little hidden gem
of a blooming rose garden...
and the enchantment of the scene is enhanced
by a quiet and cool morning of gray skies and almost drizzle.

Blue birds (my favorite!),
flittering here and there, complete the perfectly spring scene.

Happy Friday!!
