What are those Purple Trees in L.A.?

If you are coasting into L.A. this time of year,
you may be surprised and delighted to be greeted warmly
by a wonderful watercolor wash of purple blossoming trees!!

What are those lovely purple trees dotting 

the cityscape of Los Angeles in spring called?

...They're jacaranda trees!!

...and today's Friday Flower Pick=).

I'm lucky to live on a street lined with jacaranda trees, 

so I don't have to go very far to try my hand 

at capturing the blossoms' ephemeral beauty!!
