I had a sensational time sketching the latest mermaid in my 

mermaid zodiac series...

Mystical, magical, dreamy Pisces!!

Pisces, being a water sign, undoubtedly translates well into an enchanting creature of the sea...

and I thought a lovely spring color palette of lavender, aqua, and hot pink would be just the thing for a mermaid 

with a wild imagination and a sensitive heart=)!!

Friday Flower Pick : Periwinkle Pansies

Periwinkle pansies, 

sitting prettily on a sunny sidewalk...

somewhere on Third Street.

...It's Friday, and I'm at it again with the pansies=)!!

I just can't get enough of these sweet little flowers...

so perfect in a cheerful garden border, on a sun-drenched windowsill, or as a whimsical touch to a salad or dessert!! 

I adore this periwinkle color and can think of a thousand spring day dreams I'd be dreaming if I was one of them=)!!

Mermaid Monday : Santa Monica Lovin'

A perfect weekend day for me almost always starts with an excessively delightful (and long!!) stroll down Santa Monica beach, enjoying the surf 'n sun, and marveling at the ever-changing colors of the ocean and sky!!

This weekend, the ocean's mood ring showed a lovely translucent and misty green hue!!
...I love how no two ocean views are ever quite the same...

The last stop on my around-town-adventure is always the public library- to see what's new, and to visit some classic favorites too!!

As a huge fan of libraries, I'm delighted to have my mermaid art splashed across the front of a 125th anniversary library card edition, out now!! The feature is a result of my entry in the library card design contest; I won in the adult category!! 

So, if you're a Santa Monica local with a fondness for mermaid things 'n books too, 
be sure to stop in and get one!!

Friday Flower Pick : First Flowering Trees

One of the nicest things about living in L.A. is, 

in February, when you first get an inkling that you would love to see some signs of spring...

the weather turns gloriously warm, sunny, and breezy, 

and the trees suddenly burst into bloom!!

It all starts with these gorgeous white pear tree blossoms...

...looking so lovely and ethereal as their falling petals flutter around you as you breeze by!!

The flowers are paper thin and translucent in the sunshine, 

and I'm enchanted by the contrast between the dark branches, creamy white blooms, and light blue sky!!
